Must-see places in Budapest, according to Hungarian TikToks – PHOTOS, VIDEOS
Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, offers a plethora of programmes and places to spend your free time with, but sometimes, it is hard to choose where to go exactly.
A few Hungarian TikTokers have created videos about some of the most unique and fun places you can visit in Budapest. We have decided to gather some of them for you in the form of this article. We hope you can find something interesting to visit next time you are in Budapest.
Places you must visit Part 1
Cereal Beast
Do you pour the milk or the cereal first? You can discuss your opinions in Hungary’s first cereal-themed place. You can also customise your own bowl of cereal: choose international, national or international+national cereal, ask for as many toppings as you like, and you can even get colourful milk. You can check the menu on their official website.

SUGAR!
This establishment opened in 2008, and its founders were striving to create a traditional confectionery that also adds to those traditions both in visuals and quality and creates a mesmerising place to visit for the lovers of everything sweet.
Places you must visit Part 2
Zoo Café
“The Zoo Cafe was established in 2014 in the heart of Budapest. We have many hand-raised animals with whom we began our function with the aim that, in this rushed life where families do not have the possibility to keep their own animals in their places, we represent the relationship between humans and animals. Everybody can admire our special and interesting animals next to a coffee, a cake, a sandwich or an ice cream,” declares their website.
“With our private rooms, there is a possibility to give birthday parties, children’s parties, or other events in our cafe where the kids can get to know all of our animals through games with the help of one of our zookeepers.”
Unicorn Bistro
“We visited a Unicorn cafe in Thailand. We loved the place […]. Then I knew that with a little attention, with change and, of course, a lot of work, we can be the first in Europe to open a restaurant with such a theme.”
“I managed to open Europe’s first unicorn-themed restaurant in June. Most of our food was dreamed up by me, of course, the chefs helped make it happen. From hamburger to pasta, waffles to shakes, we’ve tested everything and offer you the best version. We thought of those who live with lactose or gluten intolerance, we also have a vegan and diet menu,” the founder of the restaurant said.
Superfly
Superfly Budapest is for those people who want to be active in their free time. It is essentially a big indoor trampoline park with foam pits and monkey bars so you can hone your acrobatics skill without needing to worry about injuries.
Places you must visit Part 3
Cat Café
“Cat Café Budapest opened in 2013, not long after the concept of cat café arrived in Europe. Cat Café Budapest offers you a comfortable place to pet, play, and socialise with our lovely cats while relaxing with a cup of coffee. It’s a pawsome place for cat lovers to enjoy and interact with cats,” the café says about themselves.
“You can choose from our wide range of hot beverages, sodas, and alcoholic beverages, as well as cakes and sandwiches.
You also have the opportunity to organise your private events here; birthdays and the like. Our staff will be on standby, and our guidelines will help to make the most out of your visit here.”
Museum of Sweets and Selfies
The Museum of Sweets and Selfies is Europe’s first sweet and selfie museum. There are sets on two levels, in a total area of 400 m2. You can create unique images here, and you will not even know which one to share on social media. Out of the 11 different rooms, everyone can find their favourite.
“If you want to try what it’s like to lie in a tub full of money or gallop back in time on white horses and then drink your favourite coffee among meringues, this is the place for you!” They are open every day of the week, and you can choose from different ticket types. In addition, it is possible to hold events.
Now, they can be found in two locations thanks to their popularity: The Museum Of Sweets & Selfies No. 1 Origin can be found at 1061 Budapest, 43 Paulay Ede Street. The one called Museum Of Sweets & Selfies No. 2 Bubbles is at 1072 Budapest, on Rákóczi Street.
Tropicarium-Oceanarium
You might have heard of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, but have you been to Budapest’s “shark zoo”? Officially, it is called the Tropicarium, and it is located in the southern corner of Buda, and the advantage of this ‘zoo’ is that it is roofed, not like the Budapest Zoo. This is an excellent activity even if the weather is gloomy. You can see sharks, stingrays, and hundreds of other fish here, along with insects, reptiles, and mammals.
There is a huge glass tunnel perfect to create mesmerising photos and videos of the sharks and fish swimming over the tunnel. There is also a pool where you can pet stingrays; they are surprisingly soft. And, for the romantic types, the tunnel can be rented for a dinner, and you can even pay a scuba diver to show a message to your significant other.
If you would like to know more about the “shark zoo” in Budapest, you can read about it in detail HERE.
Extras
Budapest Retro Museum
While retro museums are quite common worldwide, this one seems to be worth visiting. According to the website, visitors “can patrol a Communist housing estate in a real LADA police car, see what Bertalan Farkas, the Hungarian astronaut of the Soviet-Hungarian space flight, took to space”, but they can also see what a news segment studio looked like in the past. Moreover, the museum also houses a bistro where people can go to grab something to eat or relax in a retro setting.

Museum of Illusions
The Budapest Museum of Illusions takes up 500 square metres with very interesting rooms, making it one of the largest museums of its kind in the region. The museum has an intelligent playroom where “visitors of all ages can play, compete, and learn.
The playroom stimulates learning and fun with Dilemma games, wooden puzzles, and games which stimulate cognitive abilities.” There are many rooms to explore and take pictures in. In the museum, you can experience how the Ames room, the Reversed Room, the Infinity Room, the Anti-Gravity Room, the Vortex Tunnel, the Beuchet Chair Illusion, and the Infinity Tunnel trick you.

The Hospital in the Rock
Visiting this collection under the Castle of Buda is an unforgettable experience. Here, you will find Hungary’s biggest wax figure collection, presenting the history of the hospital. There is a 2,300 m2 establishment under the Castle of Buda that was used during WWII and the 1956 Revolution.
It was regarded as a top-secret facility and was used as an air-force hospital. It was opened to visitors in 2008, and it has become one of the favourite sights of tourists since. Visiting the museum is only possible through guided tours, and children under the age of 6 are not allowed to enter, while it is not advised to bring children under age 12 either.
